Your names stay in your browser

NameSpinly is designed to work without an account or a database of name lists. This policy explains what the site uses and what you control.

The short version

Your spinner list stays in the current browser tab and is not saved by NameSpinly. No account is required. A share link contains the names you choose to share, so only send it to people you trust.

Information used by NameSpinly

The current version may use the following information to provide the site:

  • Name-list entries: the text you type or paste into the spinner.
  • Tool preference: your light or dark theme.
  • Share-link content: names placed in a URL fragment when you intentionally select Share list.
  • Technical request data: basic details such as IP address, browser information, and request timing may be processed by our hosting and security providers when they deliver the site.

Browser storage and local processing

NameSpinly keeps your working name list and eliminate-winner setting only in the current tab's memory. They are discarded when you reload or close the page. The random selection is also performed in your browser.

Local browser storage is used only to remember your light or dark theme. Blocking or clearing browser storage may reset that preference, but the core spinner still works and your name list is not saved there.

What happens when you share a list

The Share list button creates a URL whose fragment contains the current names. A fragment is the part after the # symbol. It is not normally included in the HTTP request sent to the website, but it is visible in the link itself.

Anyone who receives or can view that URL can see the included names. Links may also be visible in clipboard history, synced browser history, screenshots, messaging services, or browser extensions. Do not include confidential, sensitive, or unnecessary personal information in a shared list.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

The current NameSpinly site does not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioral advertising. It uses local browser storage only for the theme preference described above; local storage is not sent automatically with every web request like a traditional cookie.

If we add analytics or other data-processing features later, we will update this policy and provide any notice or choice required by applicable law.

Service providers and data retention

We use infrastructure providers to host, deliver, and protect NameSpinly. Those providers may retain limited technical logs according to their own security and retention practices. We do not receive a server-side copy of your working spinner list through normal tool use.

Your working list remains only until you clear it, reload, or close the tab. Once you send a share link, copies held by recipients, browser history, or other services are outside NameSpinly's control.

Children’s privacy

NameSpinly can be used in classrooms, but it is not designed to collect children's personal information. Teachers, parents, and other responsible adults should use only the minimum information needed, avoid sensitive details, and follow their organization's privacy rules.

Your choices and questions

You control the entries you add and whether you create a share link. NameSpinly stores only your theme preference in local browser storage. For privacy questions, email hello@namespinly.com.
